Break is over!

Spring break is over and soon the studio will only be visited after school on days I am not too exhausted to work and of course on weekends when the garden doesn't need my imediate attention.  I made a marbled clay with red and white and can't wait to see how they fire!

BATS!

Today was a beautiful day to work in the studio.  The three pieces I made yesterday were placed in the sun to start their drying process.  I am in need of more bats for my wheel and they are way to expensive...so..I asked my dear husband if he could make me some...he has some awesome tools in his workshop! Within an hour he had gone and got some Masonite and used one of my bats as a pattern and now I have three new ones and he as six more waiting to finish!! YAHOO!! I will have a dozen bats to work with!!

SPRING CLEANING IN THE STUDIO

Today I spent the day in my studio.  Winter has passed us and spring is quickly on its heels.  My flower gardens are coming back to life and the air smells so clean and fresh.  Back to the studio!  It was still crazy from mid winter clay making, which meant I had to bring warm water from the house to use so my hands wouldn't freeze.  I am working with red clay this year so everything that had white clay on it had to be washed.  Bought the glazes from storage and got them organized by "cone",swept mopped, got the studio laptop up to date, beat clay dust out of the rugs and had time to sit down in front of the wheel and make three pieces.  I can't believe how much calmer I feel after sitting in front of the wheel and getting my hands back in the clay. It is my refuge. My time to be by myself, to explore, to experiment, to sing along to very loud music and make art!

Studio

I need to get into the studio this weekend. I have three tart warmers ready to finish up and get to drying.  I have a new clay extruder that I can't wait to start making some things with...I did use it to make some handles for coffee cups and a bowl and pitcher...and it is great!
